Seattle’s most famous and recognizable artist. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, it’s very likely you’ve seen a Chihuly sculpture! More recently, Chihuly has received some pushback from the art community because of his process, explained in the Kirk Johnson article for this week. First, in your own words, explain to me what you learned about this controversy from the article. Second, how do you react to it? For centuries, artists worked in a guild structure with many workers creating art under a the vision and direction of a single master. So, does it matter that Chihuly works this way? Or, should the conversation around Chihuly’s work be altered so that the general public is more aware of his teamwork process?
