Paragraph 1: Explain the event. Give background and context of the decision (what was going on that led to the decision?), describe opposing arguments to the decision (what did others want to do, and why?).
Paragraph 2: Explain what the event, policy or decision was (ex: ) and the result. Describe policy, event or decision. In other words, who organize and/or initiated the event or policy and what was the process by which the final decision was achieved? Clearly explain the justification for the decision. This would be the reason why they chose this action.
Paragraph 3: Explain the impact the event had on those “others.” (How did the abolitionist movement impact the those who agreed, as well as those who opposed abolition?) or (How did the Indian Removal Act impact the Native Americans?). Think about the physical, economic, political, and possibly cultural ramifications of the decision.
Paragraph 4: Think about an alternative history where a very different decision was made (i.e, the Seneca Falls Convention never happened) or (The Supreme Court ruling differently in McCullough v. Maryland), etc. Describe the alternative possibilities that could have occurred based on a different decision-making result. In other words, explain how the relationship between the states and the national government might have ended up different with a different outcome in McCullough v. Maryland. Use “details” of the alternate history and aftermath.
Paragraph 5: Was the actual historical decision that was made the correct decision? Why, or why not?
