Objectives (your goals):

  • Demonstrate your understanding of key course concepts and texts (e.g. social construction of gender; patriarchy; privilege; intersectionality…) as relevant to the topic you choose.
  • Make a unified and thoughtful analytic argument, supported through the use of persuasive textual evidence and analysis.
  • Communicate your ideas clearly, with logical organization and correct grammar.

Assignment specifics:

  • Length: 5-6 full pages, double spaced, Times New Roman, 1-inch margins.
  • Academic honesty: For any research that you do – and course texts that you draw on – you must cite your sources clearly, both in the body of the essay and in the works cited. Any ideas that you get from outside sources, even if you have put them in your own words, must be fully cited. MLA format is standard for literary papers, but you may use another format if you use it accurately and include page numbers.
