Research Paper Requirements

Each student is required to complete a research paper using correct grammar, proper MLA work cited page and parenthetical documentation.

Topic:  The topic you choose must come from the content of the Social Studies class you are currently enrolled in.  A proper topic will have a life span that can be researched over two different time periods.  For example, if the topic is Detroit, Michigan, your research would compare and contrast Detroit over two separate time periods; maybe 1950 and 2000.

Research Paper- How time has affected a group, culture, place, movement, business, industry… The changes can refer to economics, equal rights, demographics, and any other area of advancement or degradation that may have occurred over a set amount of time.  It is critical that through your research, you determine the leading cause of the change that has occurred. It could be an act of congress, an influential event, a change in demand for an industry, the technological advancement that resulted in the growth of one industry or decline in another…

Length: Each paper should be no less than 750 words.

Parenthetical Documentation:  Parenthetical documentation is a requirement.  If you need assistance refer to the parenthetical documentation reference sheet found in the virtual college site. Papers without parenthetical documentation will not be accepted.

Works Cited:  Each paper must have a proper work cited page.  There will be sample work cited pages posted on the virtual college site.  Papers without a work cited page will not be accepted.  

Academic Integrity: All research papers are analyzed by software through Turnitin.com. Any paper with more than 40% of the content flagged as Not Being Original Work will be sent back to the student for a re-write. Any paper with more than 50% of the content flagged as Not Being Original Work will not be graded, and the student will receive a default grade of 0 for the assignment.

This paper is a requirement for completion of the course.
