Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) build on each other as a student progresses through the grade levels.  Since we will be focusing on teaching math lessons first, look at Kindergarten, Numbers and Operations and you will see that the children are expected to learn how to count backwards and forwards to 20.  Now look at Numbers and Operations for grades 1st through 5th.  How does this progress through each grade level?  Explain, why is it important for teachers to be responsible for teaching the TEKS in their grade level…  Be specific.  Review the Science TEKS and write about their progression overall, as to how they also build on one another.  In other words, it is important for teachers to address and teach the TEKS for their grade level because the students must understand this content.  The next grade level TEKS build upon the understanding that the students learned the content from the previous year, and so on….
