· Tami Jones, who is 72 years old is having difficulty voiding following a left hip replacement. She is on the medical surgical floor and is post op day 1.

· She been on IV fluids since surgery and has not voided in over 8 hours. The nurse attempted to encourage voiding via non-invasive methods (running water, privacy, warm bedpan), but no urine was produced.

· Her bladder scan shows a residual volume of 600 mL. The provider has ordered the placement of a Foley catheter for urinary retention.
