Case Assignment

According to the timeline, the first positive test at the facility was identified on March 23, 2020. This was followed by a statement released March 29, 2020, and 11 veteran deaths/exposures (March 30, 2020).

The first case of COVID-19 in the United States was reported on January 20, 2020 (Holshue et al., 2020).

You have been tasked with researching COVID-19 and providing information to control the spread among staff and patients. Your research will be communicated to the entire facility.

In a 3- to 4-page executive summary, complete the following:

• Explain COVID-19, its origin, and current statistics.
• Given the information above, identify three factors that may have contributed to the transmission within the Soldiers’ Home. Identify methods and protocols that could have been in place from the first reported case in the United States and the first positive case at the facility.
• Provide a detailed step-by-step explanation of how to control the spread of COVID-19 within the facility. Construct and explain a comprehensive COVID-19 prevention strategy map to be used at the facility (Strategy Map Examples and Samples).

Note: Since this is an executive summary that will be communicated to the hospital, do not write in the first person (e.g., I found that in cities with higher flight traffic, the presence of Covid-19 was greater). Make sure you effectively communicate your case based on assumptions in your explanation.
