DIRECTIONS: Write a well-developed expository essay about STARS. This essay will be five paragraphs; each paragraph will be between 8 – 12 sentences.
RESOURCES: Use chapters 9 – 14 in Wyrick; this is expository writing that intends to "explain or inform." Chapter twelve will especially be useful–although strategies discussed elsewhere will also be encouraged.
OTHER RESOURCES: Use the STARS documents and links that are on your Canvas class. (These are under Modules.)
NOTES: Remember to use any / all notes that you have taken from the URLs on Canvas. As you take notes, be very careful to cite your sources.
You must follow this process to get FULL credit:
PARAGRAPH #1: Your introduction will interest the reader, establish your voice, and feature a thesis. It should say something about money, time, or college and you need one short quote. (There is a sample introduction on Canvas.) Also, use the advice from Wyrick, chapter four, "Beginnings and Endings." In this paragraph, no pronouns, please. This paragraph must have a quote about either time or money.
PARAGRAPH #2: This paragraph will talk about STARS and "general information." What degrees are served? Which colleges will accept the contract? In this paragraph, no pronouns, please. This paragraph must have one quote from one of the STARS URLs. DO NOT QUOTE TIME OR MONEY IN THIS PARAGRAPH.
PARAGRAPH #3: This paragraph will talk about "the history of STARS." When was it created? Why was it created? In this paragraph, no pronouns, please. This paragraph must have one quote from one of the STARS URLs. DO NOT QUOTE TIME OR MONEY IN THIS PARAGRAPH.
PARAGRAPH #4: This paragraph will clearly "walk the reader through" the STARS process. (The "you" point of view is okay here–in limited quantities.) This paragraph must have one quote from one of the STARS URLs. DO NOT QUOTE TIME OR MONEY IN THIS PARAGRAPH.
PARAGRAPH #5: This paragraph is the conclusion and you will sensibly and precisely "close down" the essay without repeating. Consider adding a rhetorical question! You may also "personalize" the essay and add some limited "I" point of view. (There is a sample conclusion under Modules.) This paragraph must have a quote about either time or money.
QUANTITY: The sentence count will be from 40 – 60 sentences. Shorter essays will lose points.
QUOTES: You MUST have a quote in every paragraph.

GREAT ADVICE
- Use an objective voice (no "I" or "you" or "we") except as noted

- Create a final essay that is LESS THAN 20% match—if it is higher, please REVISE
- Create a correct "Works Cited" page outside (use OWL or your textbook or the handout)
- Include the quotes as indicated.
- Include different sentence types (see the "Sentence Types" link) and also use interesting punctuation
