1. Discuss what you found particularly thought-provoking regarding the middle passage.

– What I found most thought provoking about the middle passage was how the slaves were forced into slavery, once the passage began out of Africa it was going to be permanent. I also found the fact that the slave traders used trickery to get slaves and they preyed on the naïve and unsuspecting. Also, another I found particularly provoking in the middle passage is how English ports ships sail to Africa to trade goods for slaves and it’s very sad and tough on what the slaves went through and in my opinion I think the slaves deserved to be freed and live a joyful happy life.

2. What from the articles and video confirmed or challenged what you know of the kidnapping and forced enslavement of Africans?-Give details.

-What was confirmed to me about the enslavement of slaves from the video and article was the way the slaves were treated. Like they were not human and more like property. Also, how they were sold based on their body type and shape and for how little of money they were sold for.

3. In what ways have the articles provided a different understanding of the continent of Africa and the impact of kidnapping and enslavement on the African people?

-A different understanding has been provided by these sources because the slaves were taken without a say. They knew that once they were shackled and forced on the ship there would be no point of return. Even with the sources, it still remains the same facts at hand to me. They were forced, they were mistreated terribly and they would never return home.

1. What I found particularly thought provoking regarding the middle passage was how well thought out the process was for kidnapping and shipping slaves. The fact that they made sure to get slaves from different tribes so they couldn’t communicate and rebel shows that they had specific methods in place to protect doing something so inhumane. They even built a system of fear to also stop any possible rebellions from the slaves onboard because of how outnumbered they were.

2. Something that confirmed and challenged what I knew about the kidnapping and force enslavement of Africans were the living conditions while on board. I already knew the situation was terrible so the video and articles confirmed that. What was challenged is that I didn’t know exactly how terrible these conditions were. I didn’t know they were crammed so tightly with one another and had to live in each others feces. I also didn’t know some of these journeys living in these unbearable conditions took up to four months. Something else confirmed were the attempts of rebellion while on ship.

3. The articles provided a different understanding of the continent of Africa and the impact of of kidnapping and enslavement of the African people by emphasizing how Africans were kidnapped and the route they had to take. The Africans, who were always enslaved by force, had to then march to the ships from where ever they were captured. The articles also emphasized that there were many rebellions while onboard ships that resulted in both slaves and captures being killed.
