Research Critique

Respond to the following questions for the study being critiqued using a narrative style (no more than 5 double-spaced pages). You do not need to respond to EACH question, but use them as general guides for your critique of the publication.
APA format is not required for this assignment except for item #1. Please follow this format, including headings.

  1. Write the citation for the article in APA format.
  2. Title
    Is the title clear and concise? Does it promise what the study can provide, or promise too much?
  1. Abstract
    Does the first sentence contain a clear statement of the purpose of the article?
    Is the participant population briefly described?
    Does it end with a statement of the conclusions of the research?
  1. Introduction/Problem
    Does the introduction clearly introduce the topic and clearly state the purpose of what is to follow?Are the problem and important terms properly defined with its significance recognized?
    Does it briefly state why this report is different from previous publications?
  1. Literature Review
    Does the literature seem adequately covered and well organized?
    Are important findings noted and an effective summary provided? 
    Are specific questions raised; hypotheses clearly stated; assumptions and limitations stated?
    Is there a strong case for the importance of this inquiry or research?
    Are clear questions for the study identified?
  1. Methods/Procedures, Participants, and Materials
    Are the participants clearly described? 
    Are they appropriate for the study?
    Are methods clearly described or referenced so the study could be repeated?
    Are data-gathering instruments/materials clearly described and do they seem appropriate?
    Is the research design described in detail? Does it seem adequate?
    Are validity and reliability discussed?
  1. Results/Data Analysis
    Are the results presented clearly and concisely? 
    Do the statistical analyses seem appropriate for the situation and accurately performed (from what you can tell)?
    Do the results respond to the questions asked for the study?
    Are supporting charts and/or graphs used when appropriate?
  1. Summary/Conclusion/Discussion
    Is the problem restated? 
    Does the analysis seem objective?
    Is the Discussion or conclusions justified by the data presented and analyzed?
    Are any appropriate previous studies integrated into the discussion section?
