Summary of Events:

You are working as a patrol officer in a marked police vehicle. You are sent by your dispatcher to the Hannaford Supermarket located at 95 Spring Street in Auburn for a report of a male and female who were caught shoplifting. Upon arrival you speak with the store manager (Chris Smith) and a loss prevention officer named Joe Chaine outside of the manager’s office. Mr. Chaine states that an employee is inside the office with the male and female suspects. Mr. Chaine explained that he was monitoring the video surveillance system and noticed the two suspects in the alcohol isle. Mr. Chaine said that each person picked up a bottle of alcohol from the shelf and walked towards the back of the store. The female placed the bottle of alcohol inside an inner pocket of her coat. The male then placed the bottle of alcohol down the front of his pants and covered it with his sweatshirt. The male and female then separated from each other. The male then left the store, passing all points of sale without paying for the bottle. The male was detained outside of the store by Mr. Chaine and Mr. Smith. The male suspect complied with their request to return back inside of the store. On the way to the manager’s office they spoke with the female who was standing by the customer service desk. They asked her to come to the manager’s office as well and she also complied. The male was identified by his driver’s license as Mr. Robert Daigle 05/07/1998, 201 Main Street in Auburn.
