Please submit here your short submission of 2-3 brief paragraphs (approx 5-7 sentences) in response to this week’s article. Your response will be scored from 0-3 points.
Questions to think about when reading the articles:
- What was the big question that the researchers were trying to answer? What was their hypothesis? What kind of argument did they offer to justify their hypothesis (e.g., a specific theory? Past empirical evidence?)
- What are the methods that the researchers used? What kinds of people were recruited (i.e., who is the sample)? Do you have concerns about the composition of the sample in terms of gender, ethnicity, age, class, and culture of origin?
- What was the independent or predictor variable in the study (i.e., the variable the authors believed would cause the change in the outcome measure)? An experimental treatment? Another kind of variable?
- What was the dependent variable (the outcome of interest), and how was it measured?
- What were the central findings of the research? What are the implications for the big question or problem the paper was addressing?
- Do you agree that the findings supported the researchers’ conclusions? What were the major strengths of the study? Major limitations? What directions do you see for future work? Did you have any critiques of their theory or method?
- What questions did you have about the article? Was anything confusing?
