Hi, I need a reaction to the post below
Antecedents of behaviors shape the consequences that occur right after the stimulating behavior. Antecedent events set the phase of behavior and shapes how individuals act in particular ways and affect the possibility of future consequences (Cooper et al., 2020). I have a friend who always eats his dinner while watching the news or another friend that always checks his basement for flooding, when theres a storm outside. The watching stimulus is in control of his eating behavior and the storm is in control of him checking his basement. Other examples of stimulus control I come across in daily life include the traffic signals which control traffic and lecture room setting, which affects the behavior of learners.
I think the details of discriminative control are valuable when designing instructions as they can be utilized to continually remind the learner of the behavior expected prior to the anticipations required to reveal the skill. For this to occur, antecedent interventions need to be put in place to always aid the learner to feel undisturbed and ready. In order to understand and change behavior, the teacher should examine the antecedents, and repercussions to allow him/her to gather information on the situation was reinforced and punished. After acquiring the important information on the antecedents and consequences, environmental changes can be put in place to alter the constraints that gave rise to the student with differential stimuli on the setting.
