Introduction

In this Assignment, you will work with your team to build a hypothetical Project Portfolio for an organization in your field.  Once you’ve assembled the Portfolio, you’ll take on the role of the Governance Board, evaluate each project and select the five most promising projects for immediate implementation.  This assignment is divided into two parts, both of which will be completed in class.

Part A

• You have been sorted into teams based on common interest in one industry (e.g., Financial Services, Healthcare, etc.)
• Download the attached template and use it to guide your assignment
• Construct a hypothetical Project Portfolio for a hypothetical organization in your industry (around 10 projects)
• Start by researching your industry and selected companies
  • What is their core product or service?
  • What types of projects do they do?
• Next, develop a Hypothetical Company of your own.  
  • Give your company a name
  • What is its Mission Statement?
  • Define 3 Goals for the company to meet within the next 3 years
• Finally, create a list of 10 projects to meet your Hypothetical Company’s Goals
  • Use the attached form to list Project Overview Statement (POS), Goals, Rate support of core mission

Part B

• Complete the columns for Category, ROI, Alignment, Risk
• Develop a Selection Criteria for evaluating the Portfolio
• Rate each of the projects using the Selection Criteria
• List the 5 projects that you want to start first
• Explain why you believe the 5 projects chosen are the best choice for your organization
