- 1-2 paragraph-summary of the readings
- You should state the purpose, the question, the argument, the evidentiary statement – empirical bases, etc. of the article. Basically, what is it about?
- It should be concise and objective
- No critique, no digging
- It is the place that you show you got it, understand the piece and its contribution
- 1 paragraph pointing out a shortcoming (for example, explain why the evidence used was not convincing) AND/OR pointing out a strength (for example, explain why the evidence used was compelling) AND/OR pointing out how the material expanded your knowledge on the subject
- You should show your critical thinking skills
- You should evaluate the points that the author(s) dealt with. Try to stay within the scope of the reading
- 1 paragraph that asks 2 or 3 questions the readings raised for you
- May be challenges to the article, related with the shortcoming you pointed out
- May be a point that the author did not touch upon but can be used to strengthen the argument
- May be completely new or somewhat related question that you thought
