About this Assignment

In this course you have learned about various brain and nervous system functions and how they relate to cognition, memory, sleep and various neurological and mental health disorders. For this project, you will write a 2000-word paper on one of the following topics:

  • Kim Peek and physiological psychology theory
  • Anna O. and cognition
  • Henry Gustav Molaison and memory
  • Phineas Gage and traumatic brain injuries

Prompt

Identify and select two scholarly, peer-reviewed research articles for the topic you selected. These research articles can be primary research studies or secondary research studies. After reviewing these research articles, conduct an analysis of the studies you have reviewed and their overall findings to demonstrate a deeper level of understanding and knowledge of the topic. You will likely need to refer to the course materials or other scholarly sources in your analysis of these works.

Please consider the following when conducting analysis of your research articles:

  • Previous research: Evaluate the breadth and quality of past research discussed in each of these articles.
  • Current research methods: Provide a critical analysis of the current research methodology. Do you think the methods used in these studies were sufficient to explore the topic? Was the sample size and type appropriate? Do you/did the researchers identify any flaws in the current studies?
  • Analysis of overall findings: Provide a description of overall key findings within each of these articles.
  • Future directions: Discuss some of the future research that you would be interested in conducting and/or reading about and why you think this is important to investigate.

Using Sources

You may refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must also use 2 articles and cite them using APA format. You can use a mix of both primary and secondary sources, but your articles must be from scholarly, peer-reviewed sources. If you use any Study.com lessons as sources, please also cite them in APA (including the lesson title and instructor’s name).

  • Primary sources are first-hand accounts such as interviews, advertisements, speeches, company documents, statements, and press releases published by the company in question.
  • Secondary sources come from peer-reviewed scholarly journals, such as Metacognition, etc. You may use sources like JSTOR, Google Scholar, and the American Psychological Association website to find articles from these journals. Secondary sources may also come from reputable websites with .gov, .edu, or .org in the domain. (Wikipedia is not a reputable source, though the sources listed in Wikipedia articles may be acceptable.)
