Overview:

In this assignment, you will crop an image for emphasis using the rule of thirds in Photoshop.

Instructions:

  • Watch the following video on the previous page demonstrating how to crop an image using the rule of thirds in Photoshop
  • Once you’ve learned how to crop for emphasis, apply the crop technique to one of your images that will emphasize the rule of thirds.
    • Only use images that can benefit from this type of cropping
    • The goal is to make the photograph have a stronger composition, not take away from the composition.
  • Save both images as .jpg files
  • Embed a "before" and an "after" of your image showing:
    • Before–no adjustments
    • After–showing exposure, contrast, color and crop adjustments
  • Submit a 150-200 word reflection that details what adjustments you did and your reasoning for the crop.
    • Address how you think it is effective.
    • What will you do next time to try to crop within the viewfinder frame while you are taking the photograph?
