Philosophy Paper

Nooutside research is needed for this paper. However, cite any paraphrase orquotation from our textbook, by using this notation afterward: (author, p. xx) (Dontworry about including the name of our textbook with the citation since I know,of course, which book youre using here.) Please use my notes only when using an idea fromthem that is NOT in the textbook (but no need to cite my notes in such cases).Do NOT use footnotes.

Important reminder: Plagiarism and other violations of academic integrity will be takenvery seriously. The minimum penalty is an F on the assignment.

No outside sources are needed, but if you use any, please cite anyquotations or paraphrases after the first sentence (in which you use them)instead of doing so later in the paragraph after the last quotation orparaphrase in the paragraph.

Any use of anywords in the paper (whether it be a quote, paraphrase, or an idea, etc.) thatdoes not give proper credit to the original source is considered plagiarism. Please contact me if confused on the proper boundaries here.

Chooseonly ONE of the following topicsbelow to be the topic that you write about. Any deviation from these topics orany other topic that you would like to write about MUST be approvedfirst by me. I encourage you to use certain (brief) quotations from thetextbook where appropriate.

1.      Bill is agnostic (i.e.,doesnt know whether to believe God exists or not) and asks you for help ingetting exposure to specific arguments on the issue. Choose 1 argument(no more and no less) from the 3 arguments that we looked at (concerning theexistence of God) that you disagree with and send him an email about them.(For example, the Kalam Argument counts as one argument in accordance with theinstructions. Of course, in this kind of assignment, its possible for a believerin God to choose (and disagree with) an argument for God if the studentbelieves that the particular argument under discussion is not a good one toshow theres a God.) Since paper space is limited, after a brief summaryof the argument you are discussing, discuss the key weaknesses or objections tothe argument that you (and others in history) perceive. Conclude the email toBill by pointing him to a better (more helpful) argument for settling theissue.

2.      Jenny, an agnostic whosemother died in a car accident two years ago, has emotionally recovered from thetragedy, but now she wants to discuss how the issue relates to the existence ofGod. Since she notices in the newspaper that other seemingly bad events happenacross the world, she wonders whether this problem of evil contradicts thetraditional idea of Gods existence, and so she asks for your help.  Send her an email about the Problem of Eviltopic.  On this topic, you willpresumably disagree either with the idea that evil is an effective objectionagainst the existence of God OR disagree with Augustines solution for Problemof Evil issue (OR disagree with another key solution or positionon this topic from the book readingbut pick one that has enough ideas to workwith in the paper). Argue that your final conclusion from all this is thecorrect answer to her question.
