Philosophy

Write a 2-3pp. paper (TNR 12; spacing: 1; margins: 1) on the following topic: "Is it Possible for Us to Know Anything? Confronting the Challenge of Radical Skepticism." You will be working on the readings by Russell and, especially, Descartes and Vogel. Your task is, first, to explain why we have good reasons to doubt many of the things we spontaneously believe are true about the world (perhaps even ALL of those things, as Descartes claimed), and, second, to assess Rosen’s attempt to debunk Descartes’ skeptical arguments by proposing a more modest view of knowledge, one that states that we should feel warranted to embrace those beliefs we have "good" reasons to believe in, even if absolute certainty, as Descartes wanted, can never be achieved; finally, you are expected to briefly present your own view on the issue.

Only the three readings referred to above are allowed; please do not use any internet sources. A solid paper is one that answers the question in a clear, precise, eloquent, and rigorous manner. Please fully-proof read your paper before submission; if your paper is poorly written, it will be not receive the highest score. If you have no experience writing philosophy papers, read the very useful “Guide on How to Write Philosophy Papers” (you will find it under “Supplementary Materials”).
