Over the course of the last 7 weeks, we have explored the many faces of PTSD. What is important to realize is that every community whether it be a military base or a large city like New York or a small rural community has been impacted by some form of catastrophic event or trauma. Types of community trauma can stem from natural diseases, mass casualties or accidents, teen suicides, gun violence, interpersonal violence, military events, police actions, farm or hunting accidents, as well as aspects of the COVID pandemic COVID. The reality is that no community is immune to trauma of some form. As a result, across the country, communities and neighborhoods are working to promote community safety and preparedness through comprehensive, multi-sector actions.

For example, harvest time in many rural areas often triggers deadly farm accidents. Each year farm accidents kill an estimated 60 to 70 per 100,000 of farm population (Rush, 2020). Consequently, farm deaths impact communities not only from the loss of a valuable member of a community but to increased knowledge of the insecurities of farm life and the fact that mortality is something every farmer and their family faces. Neighboring farmers expressed that the community assistance and support provided to injured persons and families benefited not only the injured persons and their families and farms but also the community members.

For this assignment, review the before completing the steps below.

3. Investigate: In 3 5 paragraphs and citing a minimum of 5 in-text references:
   • Introduce the reader to the event, when it took place, who was affected, and the overall impact on the community.
   • Provide statistics regarding this event, how many were affected, and the prevalence of such an event both locally and nationally.
   • Identify any risk or protective factors present.
   • Discuss the long-term effect or impact on the community.
4. Community Response: Identify ways in which your community has sought to help victims of this event. Discuss approaches, strategies, resources, and services.
5. Identify Gaps in Services: Analyze gaps in services in your community and identify actions you would take to close these gaps.
6. What You Learned: Summarize what you learned from this assignment and how you can advocate for additional resources for victims of such an event.
7. Concluding Paragraph: Wrap up your paper by highlighting key elements of your investigation and the points you want your audience to remember.
8. Reference Page: Include citations for references you quoted or paraphrased within the paper.
