In developing effective ministry with couples and families, it is essential for counselors to be able to draw upon sound biblical and theoretical perspectives. It is also important to be able to apply theoretical approaches and strategies that are proven to be effective. This week’s readings and activities are designed to facilitate the development of such body of knowledge and skills.
Tasks
In a minimum of 400 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:
Of the six family therapy approaches you have covered thus far, which three do you find most appealing for ministry with families? Explain why?
Identify three areas of strengths and three challenges associated with each approach you selected.
Identify some of the possible limitations related to the three approaches you found appealing, in terms of the applicability to families or couples from different cultural or ethnic groups (e.g., while one approach might work for a family living in a rural setting or a family struggling financially to make ends meet but that has good extended family support, that same approach might not be as effective if applied to a family in an urban setting with limited to no family support despite having more financial security).
