Theodore H. White created the presidential campaign book. He published four Making of the President books (1960, 1964, 1968, and 1972). In King Richard, Michael Dobbs went in a different direction and wrote what might be called The Unmaking of a President. The Watergate inquiry last three years, and Richard Nixon didn’t resign until August, 1974. Yet, Dobbs focuses on seven months in 1973. Why did Dobbs focus on those months, and how well does he succeed in revealing the unraveling of the Nixon presidency?
