- What are the strategies explicitly discussed in this section of the book?
- What do these parenting strategies tell us about the social world in which these black women live? Remember, these mothers are responding to the built, intentionally designed social environments in which they find themselves.

- Racial Histories of Family and Work (Ch.6) describes how the competing cultural expectations of black womanhood & motherhood influence womens decision in this study to work or stay-at-home. We see this conflict play out when Dow discusses stay-at-home mothers in this chapter.
