Download a mobile app used either to manage a chronic illness or personal health goals and complete an assessment of the app. Address the following prompts.
- Describe the mobile app and its purpose.
- Why did you chose this app?
- Are there many similar apps or does this app fill a niche with few competitors? How does it stand out?
- What is the version you are evaluating?
- What mobile devices is it compatible with?
- Is the app stand alone or does it interface with other systems or databases?
- Who designed it?
- Who is it designed for?
- Are their apparent equity issues present? (age, cognitive ability, race, ethnicity, English as a second language, etc…)
- What are the stated benefits of the app and does it meet those benefits? Why or Why not?
- What are the limitations of the app?
- What challenges are present for integrating this type of consumer informatics with traditional healthcare?
- How would you improve the app to make it more inclusive or improve its functionality?
Format Requirements
The assessment should include the required elements, follow the order of the prompts and be approximately 2 or 3 pages in no particular format.
Guiding Principles: The purpose of this exercise is to explore a single example of consumer health informatics, its benefits, limitations, potential equity issues and possible challenges integrating the mobile app with traditional healthcare that relies heavily on assessments documented by clinicians.
