According to AHIMA, “there is perhaps no more important use of metadata than in the management of the information life cycle—especially as it relates to information created and maintained in EHRs” (AHIMA 2013). However, as of 2014 there were no metadata standards for this type of schema. Given this, what is the current research in this area? What conclusions can you draw from your readings? You will need to conduct a literature review to identify work being done on schema development in healthcare, especially related to the EHR.
