During your interview, be sure to ask the following questions:
- What type of media do you sell or buy?
- Describe your approach to
- Setting goals?
- Making connections
- Building relationships
- Describe your target audience, media outlet, territory, and approximately how many clients you are responsible for?
- Are your clients’ target audiences reach a broad (regional, national, global) or narrow (local, niche) audiences?
- What type of market research do you use to understand their market?
- What types of contract and rates do you use to submit to clients?
- What tools do you use to organize their day?
- Describe what you do to stand out from media sales competitors?
After conducting your interview, write an overview using the following format.
Write an introduction
The introduction provides the interview’s details. Provide the subject’s name and position and explain how you contacted them and why you selected the person and what you expect to do with the information.
Give a brief overview
In one or two paragraphs, write an overview of the interview. Include the topics you discussed with the interview subject, and briefly indicate their responses the themes of his answers. You do not have to go into great detail; instead, offer summary statements that provide the context and content.
Discuss the major findings
In one or two paragraphs describe the discoveries you made during the interview. Include relevant facts or stories to the purpose of the interview. If any findings surprised you indicate that as well and why.
Discuss the situation
Talk about the circumstances of the interview and the way the person behaved, Did the environment impact the interview? If so, explain why. You can include how the person reacted to your questions.
Conclude the interview summary
In three to five sentences, provide a summary of the interview and the major findings. Indicate how you may apply the information you gathered from the interview.
