                                                                  Writing Prompts for Comparative Essay

      1. The Cause(s) of Mrs. Mallard’s Death (Examples: Oppression, An Unhappy Marriage, Heart Disease, Shock, No Longer Free) 

      2. The Effects of Mrs. Mallard’s Oppression (Examples: An Unhappy Marriage, Heart Disease, Embrace of Freedom, Death)

 

Introduction 

1. Lead in statement (Grab the reader’s attention about the subject; introduce the work and author)

2. Supporting Information (give a summary of the short story)

3. Thesis (should be last sentence and should address the topic)

Body (All body paragraphs should be developed the same.)

1. Topic sentence (should be first or no less than the second sentence and should direct the paragraph; should make a point about the         thesis)

2. Supporting Sentences (sentences should develop topic sentences; they may be examples, descriptions, explanation, etc.)

3. Clincher Sentence (sentence that brings the discussion to a close and may serve as a transition into the next paragraph)

Conclusion

1. Restate Thesis (statement should not be worded the same but maintain the same idea

2. Supporting Sentences (give resolutions; possible outlook, your perspective on subject)

3. Clincher Sentence (sentence that brings the essay to a close)

***Make sure to use present tense when discussing a literary work

***If quotes, summaries, or paraphrasing are used from a work or another source, make sure to document sources in the text of the paper, and use a Works Cited Page to list all sources. Do not use sources in the introduction and conclusion.
