Literature Review Outline – Conventional vs. Unconventional PTSD Treatments

The theme for this Literature Review Outline is the efficacy in Conventional  and Unconventional PTSD treatments. Not neccesarily one versus the other, just the efficacy of each type.

The outline should be structured in a sentence outline format, with the identification of major points/themes and support for these points. Please address each section of the outline in 1-2 sentences in some cases and 1-2 paragraphs in others as noted in the directions. 

  1. Introduction
    1. State the problem or general research question (a few sentences – what is known, not known, and what is needed based on your review)  
    2. Establish context leading to a clear statement of the specific research question (explain why the topic is important)
      1. Provide background and contextual material justifying why this topic should be studied
        1. Define key terms  and theory  – include scholarly definitions for a few terms and theories.  **See example papers in capstone template for how to format this section
        2. Examine the history or relevance to field – This is what is still not known about your topic.   3-4 sentences
        3. Discuss how and what it contributes to the field – this is how the study findings are applied outside of the research setting to the real world – implications (see annotated bibliography template)  3-4 sentences 
        4. Explain how the topic applies to your professional interests.    3-4 sentences 
    3. Communicate a clear, direct purpose statement. One Sentence 
  1. Literature Review
    1. Literature Sampling Approach Technique (Describe your search of the literature on your selected topic).  **See example papers in capstone template for how to format this section 
    2. Critical Analysis of Literature
      1. Main Point 1 (2-3 sentences) these are your subthemes 
        1. Support for position (Sources from the annotated bibliography)
        2. Succinct summary of main point and transition statement
      2. Main Point 2 (2-3 sentences)
        1. Support for position (Sources from the annotated bibliography)
        2. Succinct summary of main point and transition statement
      3. Main Point (2-3 sentences)
        1. Support for position (Sources from the annotated bibliography)
        2. Succinct summary of main point and transition statement
  1. Discussion
    1. Main Themes Meanings and Findings– (1-2 paragraphs) Synthesize critical analysis of the literature (Reiterate common themes what can you learn from what others have studied by looking at the whole picture?)
    2. Contribution to Field- (1-2 paragraphs) Identify new knowledge gained through integration of literature findings (What new knowledge have you or do you anticipate being able to generate based on your review? How can this information add to our understanding of the overall topic?) This is the implication content from your annotated bibliographies
    3. Implications for Future Research- (1-2 paragraphs) Present recommendations for future research. (see last paragraph of each study and add your own insights) 
    4. Conclusion– Summarize the entire literature review (2-3 paragraphs)
