You are a consultant to a company [choose a real company of your liking]. The CEO has come to you as they have an issue:
They attract good candidates, but they cannot retain and motivate them for a long time after they join.
The CEO asks you to propose an analysis of the issue based on few academic theory/concepts. He/she also asks if you could propose some recommendations on how to improve the situation.
The essay should include: (i) a theoretical analysis of the issues that might affect the company (source theory/concepts studied in the first 5 lectures); (ii) recommendations of how these issues could be overcome, based on your theoretical analysis; (iii) a critical appraisal to the analysis and/or recommendations (pros and cons).
You are required to choose a company of your preference. This will help you ground your reflections and assumptions in a real context. Choose a company you know about, for example: a chain of restaurants you eat at, a company that produces clothes you wear, or an energy company that produces the petrol for your car, or even a car company; it could also be a company you work for! The important thing is that you can imagine the settings in which the workers operate. You can look at the company website and check how they hire people. You can also think about a company’s real culture.
You can imagine these issues, they do not have to be real problems of the company.
