This week’s reading focuses on assessing the historical importance of urban life in Mexico and Brazil by examining two major colonial cities within these different yet comparable empires (Spain and Portugal).  Analyze how each city’s structure and function served both to limit and benefit its inhabitants, as well as how the cites fostered and perpetuated inequality within the imperial system.
