You will create and submit many creative activities as part of this course. The purpose of these assignments is to enhance your own creativity while developing an understanding of the importance of creativity and creative activities. These activities will be examples of actual creative activities that you can do with young children. We will begin this work with this first Discussion assignment.

Use the Week 1 Discussion to introduce yourself to the class. To do this you will create a visual representation of yourself. There are several options for how to do this:

PICK ONE – Option 4

· Option 1 = Draw your self-portrait on paper using drawing or writing tools – be creative!

· Option 2 = Record a video of you describing you and things that are meaningful/important to you – be creative!

· Option 3 = Create a photo collage of you and things that are meaningful/important to you – be creative!

· Option 4 = Use PowerPoint/Google Slides or Google Jamboard to create a CREATIVE representation of things that are meaningful/important to you.

Part B

Assignment – Video Observation

After watching the short video in Module 1 of a preschool-aged child demonstrating creativity, please answer the following in a one-page paper:

Paptree is creating her full-sized self-portrait.

1. How is Praptee demonstrating creativity? What creative elements is she using?

2. What developmental skills is she demonstrating? Which of the developmental domains does she use? For this course we will use the developmental domains that are identified and described in the NC Early Learning Standards, Foundations.

· Approaches to Play and Learning (APL)

· Emotional and Social Development (ESD)

· Health and Physical Development (HPD)

· Language Development and Communication (LDC)

· Cognitive Development (CD)
