Overview

The assignment aims to:

1. Stimulate interest in technology tools like mobile apps for personal wellness.
2. Develop skills to evaluate these tools for clinical use.
3. Differentiate between apps with evidence-based content and those without.

Steps to Complete the Assignment

Step 1: Identify a Mobile App (App Selection and Relevance)

• Find a mobile application that promotes personal self-management or wellness. 
• Discuss the application (APP) selected and relevance and rationale for selection. 
• Use at least one evidence-based sources to support your work.

Step 2: Conduct an App Evaluation (Evaluation)

• Use the APA Model Screener ToolLinks to an external site.:Links to an external site. This tool has eight questions to help you systematically evaluate the app. Please view the Informational videos on how to use the APA Model Screener Tool before proceeding.

The below Model is comprehensive. This brief version of the Model extracts a sample of the most fundamental questions that should be asked before considering using an app, and can serve as a good "jumping off" point to get you started:

• On which platforms/operating systems does the app work? Does it also work on a desktop computer?
• Has the app been updated in the last 180 days?
• Is there a transparent privacy policy that is clear and accessible before use?
• Does the app collect, us, and/or transmit sensitive data? If yes, does it claim to do so securely?
• Is there evidence of specific benefit from academic institutions, end user feedback, or research studies?
• Does the app have a clinical/recovery foundation relevant to your intended use?
• Does the app seem easy to use?
• Can data be easily shared and interpreted in a way that's consistent with the stated purpose of the app?

Step 3: Answer Evaluation Questions (Application)

Review the 5 Steps of the App Evaluation Model. There are multiple questions for each section. Select 2 questions from each step to discuss.

• Step 1: Access and Background
• Step 2: Privacy and Security
• Step 3: Clinical Foundation
• Step 4: Usability
• Step 5: Data Integration towards Therapeutic Goal

Summarize Your Findings (Putting it all together)

• Submit a summary report with the above information. (You may use the bullet point format)
• Use APA format including headers to organize your content. You should have 3 sections to the Summary (App Selection and Relevance, Evaluation, and Application).
• Use APA format to include a title page, content and reference page.

Step 5: Present Findings (You will post this in a Discussion Board Next Week).

• Present your findings to your peers on a discussion board.
