falling in love

Choose three different poems from three different poets that explore a similar theme, or feature a recurring motif. The possibilities are endless… but here are some examples:
Three poems about growing up.
Three poems about loss.
Three poems about falling in love.
Three poems about birds.
Three poems about winter.
Three poems that express spiritual beliefs.

Analyze and evaluate the messages (themes) and the way the messages are delivered (style/form).  Choose at least two poets from the THE SEAGULL READER POEMS textbook (or the list at the bottom of this document). The third selection may be a poet and/or songwriter of the student’s own choosing.

The essay should interpret the possible meaning of each poem, including the student’s personal connection to the poetry. (This means that for part of your essay you should compare/contrast your own personal experiences, feelings, and observations with the ideas expressed in the poetry. Include narrative examples and use first person – “I” )

To enhance your analysis, consider the biographic and/or historical context of the poet’s life and times. The essay should include a Works Cited page.

Length: At least 2000 words
