In this two-page assignment, you will indicate the specific purpose statement that relates to your problem statement, and then compose a research question that will help you to address the purpose.  Conclude by indicating the social benefits (significance) of conducting your proposed study.
First, create a purpose statement for your research project.  The problem statement must begin with the phrase, “The purpose of this research study is to … .” Be sure that you describe an actual purpose that is related to the problem.  For example, if the problem is that X creates negative effects on Y, then the purpose of your study can be to explore how to resolve the negative effects of X on Y.
Next, compose one research question that is aligned to the problem and purpose statements.  One way to easily align this is to simply convert the problem or purpose statements into a question, such as, “What is the effect of X on Y?” (quantitative) or “What is it like for Y to experience X?” (qualitative).  There are other phrasing options depending on how you phrase your research goals. Describe how this phrasing aligns with the research problem and purpose.
Then, describe the significance of addressing your proposed research study.  Describe all stakeholders (anyone that might be affected) who could benefit from having the research problem resolved.  What benefits will they experience if this issue is fixed?
Finally, add a references page. For information on APA guidelines for structure, in-text citations, and references, see the APA Post and Document Formatting and Citing Guidelines [DOCX] .
