English

For this paper, you’ll choose a an essay, short story, or poem that’s listed below and write a rhetorical analysis addressing the devices the author has chosen to employ.  During the past few weeks, we’ve discussed devices like diction, symbolism, irony, juxtaposition, and metaphor.  Ideally, those discussions have prepared for you for a paper like this.
Pick a piece below and closely examine the creator’s use of rhetorical devices.  Next, create a thesis detailing your central points and compose an essay that explores those points.
These are readings I assign my English classes down here at the College of the Florida Keys. (I did not pick the readings for our course).  FYI:  I think you might find these selections much more modern, accessible, and engaging.  🙂
Paper needs to be 2.5 to 4 pages.   Paper needs to be completed in MLA format.  Paper is due on the final day of the quarter.  Based on the quality of the paper, you can earn up to 20pts of extra credit (the amount of an entire, final draft paper!)  Let me know if you have any questions!
