However, most Americans do not worry about them until they hit close to home. Prior to the reappearance of the Corona Virus in Wuhan, China ( December 2019), the last big “scary” disease to reach the United States was the Ebola Virus (February 2014). After the Corona Virus became a global pandemic and begin to appear in the United States (somewhere between December 2019 and January 2020), the race to find a way to control its spread has shifted into overdrive in the United States. Was the shift in the level of concern and eagerness to create a vaccine due to the fact that the virus was impacting “Us” the United States, the effect of the viruses on the economy, school closures, the ever-growing number of deaths attributed to the virus or a combination of all or some of these factors?Do you think global diseases (Corona Virus, Ebola, SARS, etc,) get more attention and funding when it becomes a problem in “important” countries such as the United States or Europe? What do you think was the biggest motivator for the United States to fast-track a vaccine for the Corona Virus?
