Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) is a term created by two researchers – Peter Salavoy and John Mayer – and recognizes the ability to:
- Recognize, understand and manage our own emotions
- Recognize, understand and influence the emotions of others
Workers with high EQ are better able to work in teams, adjust to change and be flexible. No matter how mush education, skills or experience a person has, if he or she doesn’t have certain emotional qualities, he or she is unlikely to succeed. Employers are now looking for these skills when they hire new employees.
