Reading a script and envisioning the story in your mind is vastly different from seeing someone else’s interpretation of the same story. Read the script Oedipus Rex and afterwards, watch the 1957 film clip of Julie Taymor’s  Oedipus Rex. Compare and contrast how you first understood or saw the story take place with how those events were directed in the films. 

Name at least 2 specific examples of different ways you envisioned that part of the story being depicted in the script than in film. 

Name at least 2 specific examples of ways film was similar to your interpretation from reading the script.

On page 84 of your textbook, the author writes that “the script is most often the foundation for the production”.  In what ways is this statement true for the film? Did the filmmaker’s take liberties with the script?
