• Preventing disease via consistence surveillance and curbing spread of
diseases is the focus rather than treatment.
• Public health informatics often operates at public or government levels, rather
than at the private sector, in most countries as Universal Health Care is
followed.
• The scope includes the conceptualization, design, development, deployment,
refinement, maintenance, and evaluation of communication, surveillance, and
information systems relevant to public health.
• Population level monitoring – to prevent the negative impact of pandemics and
epidemics, the use of computerised global surveillance and data collection
systems such as Health Information Exchanges.
