The column labeled ‘Estimates” are the estimated numbers, but give your attention to the further right, which is the column labeled “Percent below poverty levels” for your selected county. Review the poverty percentages for all families, married families, and female heads of household. Use this to get an impression of how poverty is disbursed in your county

5. Review the table to learn the poverty estimates by race, gender, age, nationality, and other social characteristics.

Short Report:

1. Summarize the poverty rates for key groups in your residential county (e.g., children < 6 years; single mothers; married vs. single heads of household; persons age 65+).

2. Give your impressions about poverty in your locality. What surprised you? Do you see any trends in the poverty percentages?

3. Give a suggested anti-poverty policy/program that could assist in reducing poverty for one selected key group in your residential area?
