In this assignment, you will be analyzing tabulated data using the 2018-2019 Combined National Survey of Children’s Health.  Please follow these steps:

1. Go the 2016-2020 National Survey of Children’s Health Disparities Website. Use 2019-2020 combined data. https://www.childhealthdata.org/browse/ (Links to an external site.)

2. Select a total of 2 measures from the 8 domains of Child and Family Health Measures.  Next, select one Survey Question Indicator you are interested in analyzing for each of your chosen measures. Here you should see National table data.

3. Under Edit Search Criteria, see Select a Subgroup pull-down and select Household Income Level.  Repeat this for (your choice) another selected subgroup category e.g. race/ethnicity.

4. Then from the pull-down menu select a State in the U.S. and compare that state to the national data. 

5. Your essay should include an appendix with your tables.  Do not list the data in bullets; use complete sentences (you do not need to report Confidence Intervals).

Paragraph 1: Introduction

Provide a short general introduction of the indicators that you selected and why they matter in creating a foundation of opportunities for children’s and adolescent socialization and development, and/or how do they create barriers or challenges in their lives.  Do the indicators that you selected reflect a lack of access to opportunities for upward mobility, such as education, employment, or even self-worth? 

              Paragraph 2: Domain Measure 1

Describe the domain measure including the research question.  Report the National overall percentage trend with response categories. Report the percentage trends by household income level (FPL%). Report the percentage trends by another (your choice) selected “subgroup” (e.g. race/ethnicity, that is, for White, Black, and Hispanics).  Compare the National data with your selected State trend data. 

              Paragraph 3: Domain Measure 2, repeat process for Domain Measure 1.

              Paragraph 4: Conclusion

Close your essay with a concluding paragraph that is a discussion of the results of your analysis.  Report any barriers and/or opportunities that you observed for children’s health among the different income groups in your analysis as well as the indicators you selected.  Based on your data analysis, what do you conclude about the challenges and opportunities for upward or downward mobility of children and adolescents?
