https://academic.oup.com/gerontologist/article/57/1/129/2632137Step 1:  Pick a cultural group you are interested in learning more about.  A cultural group includes “people with common origins, customs, and styles of living; a sense of identity and a shared language.”

Step 2: Post in your small group discussion which cultural group you are researching. Do not duplicate a cultural group someone has already chosen.

Step 3:  Research and learn as you can about the cultural norms and patterns and how these norms and patterns influence health practices.  Please use peer-reviewed sources and the library database to gather your sources.  You are expected to references at least 2 sources in your post.

Step 4: Write a post answering the following questions:

  1. What is this cultural group’s definition of health and illness?
  2. What are indicators of health for this specific cultural group? (For example, some cultures look at skin color and the color of the whites of the eyes while some cultures focus more on body mass as an indicator of health).
  3. How do language and communication play a role for this cultural group? (For example, in some cultures, looking at someone in the eye is a sign of disrespect, so avoiding eye contact is important while communicating with someone in this cultural group.)
  4. When a person of this cultural group is sick, what remedies or treatments do they seek?
  5. How would the diagnosis of your group’s chronic condition(asthma or autism) look like for someone living in this cultural group? Based off the research you did on this group, what do you think are pertinent questions to ask? What might their meaning of the chronic condition (explanatory model of illness) be? Be specific in your response.
  6. How might someone in this cultural group conceptualize your group’s chronic condition (asthma or autism)? How would you explore it with that patient.

Make sure to use and cite at least two academic sources that inform your response
