You are working in the clinical informatics department of a hospital, and you identify a problem that could be addressed with decision support. Choose one of the problems listed in the assignment directions that may be addressed with decision support. Create a proposal to present to the clinical decision support committee in SBAR format, along with a mockup of how the alert/decision support will appear. Use the skills you learned in the reading and learning activity to effectively complete the SBAR

Assume that the committee is multidisciplinary and you need to thoroughly explain the problem and your proposal.

Duplicate medication/lab/radiology orders placed by physicians (in a certain time period)

High-cost medications ordered, lower-cost alternatives available

Pharmacogenomic interactions (precision medicine)

Medications with specific use criteria (only permitted for use in specific populations or not recommended for specific populations)

Medication dose too high/too low

Your assignment should:

 

Use a topic from the list provided.

Address a specific problem in that topic. For example, if you choose medication dosing, specify the medication(s) that your hospital is having issues with and how often the issue occurs. The assignment will not be graded on whether your dose recommendation is correct but will be graded on the way you address the topic.

Include an SBAR that meets all of the requirements in the reading.

Include a mockup of how your decision support will appear.

Include references to support your recommendations.
