Overview:

As an emergency manager, is important to be able to identify and plan for the risks that impact your community. However, due to the politics surrounding the reality of climate change and who causes it, many emergency planners are misinformed or just not focusing on climate risks for fear of sounding like a “conspiracy theorist” or “climate clown.”

This assignment aims to answer one question:

When you enter the field, what can you highly educated individuals do to ensure that you are informed about and planning for ALL high risk hazards, climate risks included?

To answer this question, you will need to know: 

      1) What issues current emergency managers are running into when trying to plan for climate risks?

     2) Successes: Who is currently planning for climate risks and how are they doing it? What types of programs or initiatives do they implement?

     3) How can you apply this to your career as an emergency manager?

What you will need to do:

• Create a 7 to 10 page analysis paper that explains your findings and answers the 4 questions above.
