Unit 2 DB: Traditional versus Modern

Compare and contrast some of the more traditional methods of policing with the more proactive and advanced modern methods of policing. Be sure to discuss the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of all of the methods. In your opinion, which ones are better suited for crime control and prevention? Why?

Unit 3 DB: Effective Crime Prevention Efforts

Think about local crime prevention efforts undertaken either by local communities, families, schools, businesses or by law enforcement agencies, and explain the effectiveness of these programs using examples. What principles and beliefs make programs successful? Is the effectiveness based on the individual(s) who run the programs or on a cohesive effort by all?

Unit 4 DB: Diversion

Diversion programs are gaining popularity through the courts nationwide. Offenders must fulfill certain requirements to avoid prosecution and some of the requirements are quite difficult. You see these programs as Drug Courts, Mental Health Courts, Domestic Violence Courts, DWI Courts, and more. Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of diversion. Do you see more adopting this concept in future? Why or why not? When answering this question, think in terms of how this approach can affect crime prevention. Provide examples to support your position.
