Overview

Advancements in technology are now allowing us to study our Sun in great detail. Many missions are currently studying and collecting data on the Sun and learning how the Sun works and how it interacts with the Earth. Several future missions are being planned involving many other countries than the United States. Some of the current missions are:

 The Solar & Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO)

The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)  

 The Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO)

Instructions

  • Search for a scientific new finding (within the past 5 years) about our Sun.  Either using one of the sites mentioned above or finding another mission site.  

  • Prepare a short report of 2-3 paragraphs about the key aspects of your finding, using your own words or quotes if you can’t reword some of the information (the majority should be your own).  

  • (Put the name of your finding in the subject line so that it is easy to reference, e.g. "New coronal holes discovered April 2012")

  • Remember to meet the 150 word minimum – also supply a word count.  

  • Supply your reference(s) with active hotlinks along with proper APA style citations.
