Ages 2-6 are known as the “play years” and include many cognitive advancements. What is make-believe play? Provide an example of make-believe play if you were to observe the behavior of a child in Piaget’s Preoperational stage. What are some of the ways that play develops with age? What is sociodramatic play and how is that displayed in early childhood? What are the cognitive benefits of make-believe play? What is egocentrism and provide an example of a child displaying egocentric thinking. Next, describe early childhood (ages 2-6) friendships. According to a preschooler, what is a “friend” and what happens between friends. Name and describe the 4 main types of peer sociability in play. Describe some of your own first friendships, who did you make friends with, what forms of play did you engage in, and did any of these friendships last throughout childhood and into adolescence?
