This assignment will be based on Chapters 11  or 12 of your textbook.  Please read those chapters before beginning this assignment.  You may write about Career Planning or Organizational Structure.   

If you choose to write about Career Planning – The first part of the paper will be related to Chapter 11 Question #1.  The second part of the paper will be related to Chapter 11 Question #2 

If you choose to write about Organizational Structure – The first part of your paper will be related to  Chapter 12  Question #3. The second part of our paper will be related to Chapter 12 Question #4. 

Select either Career Planning or Organizational Structure for APA paper 3.  You will also complete a peer review on another student’s paper that has not been reviewed on a topic that is different from what you have discussed in your paper.

1. Chapter 11 – Consider the job stages in your textbook of Chapter 11. What stage are you in currently?  Are there nurses you aspire to be like? What stage are they in currently?  Compare male vs female as a career opportunity in nursing.

2. Chapter 11 – Consider someone who has coached you as a nurse in a formal or informal manner.  What type of areas did they help you to improve?  Have you ever coached another nurse and helped them to reach their career goals?

3. Chapter 12 – Discuss the lines of authority in your organization. Who reports to who?  Are the lines of authority clear? How does the organizational structure encourage autonomy and work empowerment?  

4. Chapter 12 – Is your hospital a magnet hospital?  What are the main components of this type of hospital? If you do not work at a magnet hospital, what are the major differences you see when comparing your current place of employment to a magnet hospital?

This paper should be 8 pages long and include a Title page, a Reference page, and 6 pages of text (approximately 3 pages for each of the questions). 

  1. Page 1 must include page numbers, and a Bolded title called  Career Planning or Organizational Structure as per APA format 7th edition. 
  2. Page 2  will be the introduction paragraph and must-have title which is centered and bolded according to APA format.  This paragraph should also have a purpose statement, telling the reader what the paper will be about (discussion of two areas related to Career Planning or Organizational Structure). Students will provide a quick overview of the topic that will be covered and include a reference to the textbook. 
  3. Also on page 2, you may begin the second paragraph with the question related to Career Planning or Organizational Structure
  4. Page 3 -In the third paragraph, you will continue to discuss the first question related to your topic.  Include at least 2 EBP references that are relevant to this topic of Career Planning or Organizational Structure. Make it clear to the reader how the EBP article applies (you may use a study of some type, a systematic review, meta-analysis, or meta-synthesis that is peer-reviewed and obtained through the Biomedical library).
  5. Page 4 You will discuss your personal experience with the 2nd question related to your chosen topic of Career Planning or Organizational Structure. Also include an 2 EBP references are is relevant to the topic (you may use a study of some type, a systematic review, meta-analysis, or meta-synthesis that is peer-reviewed and obtained through the Biomedical library). 
  6. Page 5 – You will continue to include information about the 2nd question related to Career Planning or Organizational Structure.  
  7. Also on page 5 – Conclusion  In the last paragraph you will give a summary of what you have discussed in the paper with key important points to remember from the topics you have discussed in Chapters 11 – Career Planning or 12 – Organizational Structure. No new material or references should be in this final paragraph.
  8. Reference page  Needs to include your textbook reference and at least 4  evidence-based articles that are cited in your paper. 
  9. You may use personal communication and can also use 1st person if you are discussing an example of where you currently work or personal experiences when discussing either chapter assigned. (Hint: Look in the back of each chapter for the primary references).
