The assignment this week is to write a business memo. A memo is an internal business document. For this memo, consider purpose, audience, voice, and media as you compose your business communication (Keys for Writers).
Scenario: You are the Vice President (VP) of operations in a business. It has come to your attention that a policy or a procedure change is required. Your audience for the memo is employees. It is up to you whether the memo is addressed to all employees or to a specific group of employees.
Here are a few ideas for changes: customer return policy, personal use of company property policy, staff training procedure, requesting time off policy, or an emergency evacuation procedure. However, you are welcome to compose a memo about a policy or procedure change of your choice.
Assignment requirements:
Content: The memo must address the following questions.
Who does the change affect?
What is the change?
Why did the change take place?
When is the change effective?
Where can employees find the new policy or procedure?
How will the change will be implemented?
Format: Business Memo:. Download and use the memo template.
Organization of writing: Your writing should present original ideas that are clear and presented in logical, sequential order. You may use bullet points for this assignment; however, the memo must be written in complete sentences. Length: 250 – 500 words.
Standards of conventions of English:
Evaluate your writing to ensure you do not have confusing sentence syntax, misplaced modifiers, dangling modifiers, or abrupt shifts within your memo.
Use the readings and multimedia information to help you assess your writing.
Spell check and proofread your post. Check for sentence structure, punctuation, word forms, grammar, and spelling.
