The reading, research and discussions in this module have hopefully educated you about the multitude of strategies, methods and priorities exercised by government agencies and Congress in securing the land, air and sea borders of the United States.

Action Items

1. Think deeply about how you would secure the border. Reflect on the opinions that cropped up as you were reading the material in this module and engaging your classmates in discussion. What policies did you disagree with? Why? What levers of power (such as legislation, the press, or the litigation) would you focus on to change the country’s border security and immigration policy?
2. In 3-5 minute audio diary, articulate how you would change the country’s border security and immigration policy. Be sure to back your opinion with references in the diary to sources or material you have read – mere opinion is insufficient. Try not to use rhetorical questions to fill the space (i.e. “What is border security after all? Many people have opinions about border security, as do I”). Focus on substance. Cite facts and statistics.
